| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central pattée cross within a beaded inner circle, dividing the field into four quadrants. The cross arms are bold and evenly proportioned, characteristic of Carolingian hammered coinage. Surrounding the inner circle, the circular legend CARLVS REX FR is inscribed in Latin capitals, reading 'Charles, King of the Franks.' The outer border consists of a beaded or dotted rim typical of the period. The overall design is austere and hieratic, consistent with the reformed coinage issued under Charlemagne's monetary reform of 793–794. |
