The lettering is large and occupies most of the flan, characteristic of the pre-reform Carolingian denier type struck prior to the monetary reform of 793–794. The coin is struck on an irregular, hand-cut flan with a slightly ragged edge typical of hammered coinage of this period. A small hole is pierced near the lower edge, indicating the coin was likely worn as an ornament or amulet at some point in its history. |

| Mô tả mặt sau | The reverse field bears the mint toponym TRIIECT arranged in two lines of bold Carolingian capital letters, reading TRI / IECT, denoting the mint of Trajectum (Maastricht). The lettering is flanked by pellets and cross-like ornaments dispersed across the field, a stylistic feature common to the Maastricht mint output of the early Carolingian period. The coin is enclosed by a beaded border visible on the outer edge of the flan.
