| Obverse description | Central field bears a plain cross set within a beaded inner circle, dividing the field into four equal quadrants. The cross is bold and simply rendered, consistent with Carolingian hammered coinage of the reform period. Surrounding the beaded circle, a circular Latin legend reads CARLVS REX FR, identifying the issuer as Charles, King of the Franks. The flan is irregular and slightly worn, typical of hand-struck silver deniers of this era. |
