Letters are bold and somewhat irregularly spaced, characteristic of Carolingian hammered coinage. The entire design is contained within a beaded outer rim. The execution reflects the reformed coinage type introduced under Charlemagne's monetary reform of 793–794. |

The reverse design is consistent with the Dorestad mint type attributed to the monetary reform coinage of Charlemagne. |
