Reverse description Central field occupied by the Carolingian royal monogram — a cross-based cipher incorporating the letters of KAROLVS — set within a plain inner circle surrounded by a beaded border. The mint name legend DORESTADO (with variant spellings recorded) fills the outer annulus in large, widely spaced capital letters, running around the full circumference of the coin. The design is typical of the palace-reform coinage introduced circa 793–794, emphasizing royal authority through the monogram device common to all mints of the reformed Carolingian series.
