Reverse description Central field features the Carolingian royal monogram of Charlemagne — a stylized interlaced cipher composed of the letters of KAROLVS — set within a beaded inner circle. Four small crosses or stars occupy the angles between the monogram and the inner circle. The surrounding legend in large retrograde Latin capitals runs between the inner beaded circle and the outer beaded border, identifying the Barcelona mint. The overall style is consistent with post-conquest Carolingian provincial issues struck for the newly captured Spanish March.
