| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse displays the mint name Avranches abbreviated in two lines across the field, reading ABRN in the upper line and CAS in the lower, rendered in the same bold, angular Latin script as the obverse. The letters are deeply struck and well-separated, occupying the majority of the flan surface with no additional decorative motifs or border. This plain, inscription-only type is characteristic of the pre-reform Carolingian denier series struck prior to the monetary reform of 793–794. The irregular flan edge and variable strike quality are consistent with hand-hammered production at a provincial mint. |
