| Beschrijving keerzijde | The reverse field displays the mint name inscription in two horizontal lines of bold capital letters, reading ΛDRΛ / DIS, identifying the Arras mint (Atrebates/Atrecht). The lettering fills the flan in the characteristic early Carolingian epigraphic style, with a beaded or pellet border partially visible around the circumference. The die-work is typical of pre-reform Frankish deniers, with large, spaced letters struck on an irregularly shaped flan. This reverse type conforms to the standard format of Charlemagne's pre-monetary reform coinage prior to the introduction of the reformed heavy denier circa 793–794. |
