The letter A appears in the upper left quadrant, R in the upper right, L in the lower left, V and S in the lower right area, and C to the left, all rendered in bold, slightly irregular hammered capitals characteristic of early Carolingian epigraphy. The coin is enclosed by a continuous outer border of raised beads. The flan is irregular and slightly concave, consistent with hand-struck silver of the period. No effigy is present, reflecting the aniconic monetary tradition of the early Carolingian reform coinage. |
