Magnus IV (known as Magnus Eriksson) was deposed by his own son Eric in 1356, briefly restored, then definitively ousted when Albrecht of Mecklenburg seized the Swedish throne in 1363 — the very year this issue begins. These bracteates were struck during the terminal collapse of Magnus's reign, most likely as a final assertion of royal authority while Albrecht's forces consolidated control. Magnus spent his remaining years imprisoned at Three Crowns Castle until 1371.
