Obverse lettering + ΛRNVLFVS REX
(Translation: King Arnulf.)
Reverse description A bold cross divides the central field into four quarters, each containing a prominent pellet, all enclosed within a beaded inner circle. The circumferential Latin legend + TVLLO CIVITAS (City of Toul) runs between the beaded circle and the flan edge. The design follows the standard Carolingian denier type associated with the episcopal mint of Toul, with the cross-and-pellets motif serving as the principal reverse type throughout the reign of Arnulf.
