Reverse description The mint name DORESTΛTΛS (Dorestad) is inscribed in two horizontal lines across the field, employing archaic Carolingian letterforms with lambda-shaped characters substituting for conventional 'A'. The text is separated by a horizontal dividing line, a layout typical of Carolingian deniers issued at the Dorestad mint. The flan is irregular and slightly buckled, consistent with hammered coinage of the period.
