Andrew III, the last of the Árpád dynasty, ruled a kingdom already fracturing under competing noble factions and papal interference in the succession. His death in 1301 without a male heir ended over three centuries of Árpád rule and triggered an interregnum that allowed the Angevins to claim the throne. These deniers were struck across an eleven-year reign in which royal authority was perpetually contested — Charles Martel of Anjou pressed his own claim from 1292 onward, backed by Boniface VIII.
