Reverse description Frontal bust of Saint Ladislaus (László), patron saint of Hungary, depicted wearing a nimbus or crown and holding a halberd or battle-axe — his traditional attribute — with wings or foliate ornaments flanking the figure, characteristic of the medieval Hungarian denier type. The bust is rendered in the rough, stylised manner typical of hammered silver issues of the Árpád dynasty. The peripheral legend S LADISLAVS identifies the saint, though legend completeness varies with the irregularity of the flan.
