Obverse description Equestrian figure of the tsar depicted in right profile, mounted on a galloping horse, the rider's right arm raised and brandishing a sabre above his head. The design is executed in the characteristic schematic style of early Russian wire money, with the horse and rider occupying the majority of the irregular flan. The relief is bold though somewhat flattened due to the hammered technique, with typical die-shift and flan irregularities consistent with scale-coin (cheshuyка) production.
