Obverse description Central field features a stylized patriarchal or archiepiscopal cross motif within a plain inner circle, the arms of the cross terminating in trefoil or pellet ornaments. The surrounding border consists of a raised rope or beaded outer ring with protruding lobes, characteristic of the hammered coinage of the Archbishopric of Ravenna. The entire design is rendered in a rough, medieval style typical of Italian ecclesiastical billon denari of the 13th–14th centuries. The circumferential legend reads ✠ * ARCIEPISCO P V S, referencing the issuing archbishop.
