Obverse description Bare laureate head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine high-relief portraiture characteristic of Augustan coinage. The emperor's features are idealized yet individualized, with a wreath of laurel leaves encircling the head. The encircling legend AVGVSTVS DIVI F runs along the periphery of the flan, identifying Augustus as son of the deified Julius Caesar. The die work is crisp, exhibiting the refined engraving style associated with the imperial mint under Augustus.
