Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine detail with short, layered hair swept forward in the Augustan style. The portrait is naturalistic yet idealized, characteristic of the official Augustan coinage produced at the Rome mint. The legend AVGVSTVS DIVI F encircles the bust, reading clockwise from the lower left. The flan is irregular in shape, as is typical of hammered silver coinage of the period. No drapery or other attributes accompany the portrait.
