| Obverse description | Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine portraiture characteristic of the Augustan period, with neatly layered hair swept forward over the brow. The portrait is set within a beaded border. The encircling legend reads AVGVSTVS DIVI F, identifying the emperor as Augustus, son of the deified Julius Caesar. The bust is undrapped, consistent with the conventions of early imperial coinage struck at the Lugdunum mint. |
