| Beschrijving voorzijde | Bare head of Augustus facing left, rendered in fine Classical style with finely detailed layered hair swept back from the brow and gathered at the nape. The portrait is idealised yet naturalistic, displaying the characteristic Augustan physiognomy. The circular legend AVGVSTVS DIVI F runs along the periphery of the flan, divided to either side of the effigy, and a beaded border frames the design. The overall execution reflects the high-quality engraving characteristic of the Lugdunum mint during the Augustan reform coinage. |
