Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine high relief with carefully delineated hair arranged in short, layered curls characteristic of Augustan portraiture. The bust is truncated at the shoulder and positioned centrally within the coin field. A circular legend surrounds the portrait, reading CAESAR to the left and AVGVSTVS to the right, in incuse Latin capitals. The die work reflects the accomplished engraving style of the Rome mint under the moneyer C. Sulpicius Platorinus, with a beaded border framing the design.
