De Vlaamse Olijfberg — "The Flemish Mount of Olives" — was a Christian youth movement based in Ghent operating within the broader landscape of Flemish Catholic associative life. Token issues like this one were produced for internal use, most likely tied to fundraising events or membership activities rather than commercial exchange. Alpaca, a copper-nickel-zinc alloy marketed under various trade names, was the standard choice for Belgian association tokens of this period precisely because it struck cleanly and resisted the corrosion common to cheaper zinc alloys used elsewhere.
