| Reverse description | A large, bold cross pattee occupies the central field, set within a quadrilobe or cusped Gothic frame decorated with four ornamental roundels at the terminals, without additional mintmark or privy marks in the quarters. The cross is executed in high relief consistent with hammered coinage technique. The same circular Latin legend +EMANVEL:P:R:P:ET:A:D:GVINEE runs around the periphery within a beaded border, mirroring the obverse inscription. The clean, uncluttered field around the cross is characteristic of the early Cruzado type struck at the Lisboa mint under Manuel I. The design reflects the religious symbolism of the Crusade for which this denomination was named. |
