| Popis líce | Central floriated cross with fleurs-de-lis terminals, set within a decorative frame; two flint steels and two rampant lions occupy the four angles formed by the cross arms. The design is executed in the elaborate late-Gothic hammered style typical of Burgundian-Habsburg Netherlands coinage. A continuous Latin legend in Gothic lettering runs along the outer border, interrupted by pellet stops, citing Philip's titles as King of Spain and Duke of Gelderland together with the date. The overall composition fills the flan densely, characteristic of gold crown coinage of the period. |

Guelders had been absorbed into the Habsburg Netherlands by 1543, but the duchy retained nominally distinct coinage rights well into Philip II's reign — a administrative concession that produced issues like this one, struck under his authority but carrying the local ducal identity. The 1571–1575 window places production squarely within the opening years of the Eighty Years' War, when the Spanish crown's fiscal demands on the Low Countries were accelerating the very revolt that would eventually sever them from Habsburg control entirely.
