| Beschrijving voorzijde | Central field features the royal arms of Portugal: five escutcheons arranged in a quincunx pattern, each charged with five bezants (quinas), enclosed within a plain inner circle. The design is rendered in low relief consistent with hammered coinage of the Manueline period. A partial Latin legend surrounds the central device within the beaded border, with the king's name and titles abbreviated in the characteristic Manueline orthography. The overall strike is irregular, typical of hand-struck Portuguese silver coinage of the early sixteenth century. |
