Obverse description Helmeted figure of Athena Alkidemos depicted in dynamic advancing pose to left, her right arm raised and brandishing a spear at high ready, her left arm extended forward bearing a large round shield. The goddess is rendered in the vigorous Hellenistic style characteristic of South Italian bronze coinage, with detailed rendering of her Corinthian helmet and draped figure. The design fills the flan with considerable artistic energy, with the shield and spear framing the deity's striding form.
