Obverse description Central field features a turreted castle set within a lozenge (diamond-shaped) frame, a design characteristic of the late Enrique IV coinage. The castle is depicted in a schematic, Gothic style typical of Castilian hammered billon issues. A circular Latin legend surrounds the lozenge, reading ENRICVS DEI GRACIA REX, identifying the issuing monarch Henry IV of Castile. The coin's irregular flan and crude strike are consistent with the monetary reform issues of 1471-1474. The field between the lozenge and the legend border shows evidence of characteristic hammered surface texture.
