Obverse description Within a quatrefoil inner frame, a crowned lion passant to the right occupies the central field, rendered in the bold, simplified style characteristic of medieval Castilian hammered coinage. The lion is depicted with a curled mane and raised forepaw, surmounted by a crown above the quatrefoil. A beaded inner border separates the central device from the surrounding circular legend. The Latin inscription + ENRICVS : CVARTVS : DEI : GRA runs along the outer margin, interrupted by decorative stops.
