Obverse description Bare head of Augustus facing right, rendered in fine relief with naturalistic portraiture characteristic of Augustan court art. The emperor's hair is styled in the capite velato manner with short, layered locks swept forward over the brow. The circular legend AVGVSTVS DIVI F runs along the periphery within a beaded border, reading from left to right. The field is unadorned, focusing attention entirely on the imperial effigy. The portrait conveys youthful idealization combined with regal authority, consistent with official Augustan iconographic programmes.
