Reverse description Two veiled priests, standing facing one another, jointly hold a pig over a low altar in the act of sacrifice, a scene alluding to the formal treaty sworn between Rome and the Gabini people. The figures are rendered in competent relief with draped garments clearly delineated. The inscription FOEDVS appears prominently in two lines in the central field between the priests. The surrounding legend, divided around the coin's periphery, records the name of the moneyer Gaius Antistius Reginus and the nature of the depicted act. The composition reflects the Augustan coinage tradition of commemorating diplomatic and civic achievements through reverting to ancient ritual imagery.
