| Obverse description | Facing bust of Christ Pantokrator depicted in the concave field of this scyphate flan, shown nimbed and robed in imperial Byzantine style. Christ raises his right hand in a gesture of benediction while holding the Gospels in his left hand. The Christogram nomina sacra legend IC XC appears divided across the left and right fields flanking the bust, rendered in Greek majuscule characters. The flan shows characteristic irregular striking and surface porosity consistent with billon trachy coinage of the Komnenian reform period. |
