Obverse description Entirely epigraphic field bearing the Shi'a Islamic profession of faith (Shahada) inscribed in bold Arabic thuluth script across the central field, reading: 'There is no god but God, Muhammad is the Messenger of God, Ali is the Friend of God.' The legend is arranged in multiple horizontal registers filling the flan, with a decorative dotted border encircling the perimeter of the irregularly shaped hammered flan. The lettering is deeply struck and boldly raised, characteristic of late Safavid gold coinage.

Reverse description Entirely epigraphic field bearing a Persian royal mint verse inscribed in elegant Nastaliq script arranged in four horizontal registers across the central field. The legend records that Tahmasp II, the Safavid shah, struck this coin by divine grace, identifying it as the coin of the 'Lord of the Auspicious Conjunction,' with the mint name Mashhad Muqaddas (the Holy Mashhad) and the AH date 1139. The field is bounded by a raised dotted border following the irregular outline of the hammered flan, consistent with Safavid minting practice of the period.
