Tetricus I assumed control of the Gallic Empire in 271 following the assassination of Victorinus, ruling a breakaway state that by then controlled little beyond Gaul, Germania, and Britannia. His reign was administratively chaotic — the coinage reflects it. The antoniniani of this period are notorious for rapid debasement, with billon giving way in many issues to little more than bronze with a flash silver wash.
