Tetricus I inherited a Gallic Empire already in structural collapse — Aurelian was pressing from the east, usurpers were fragmenting loyalty internally, and the silver content of the antoninianus had degraded so severely that these billon coins were barely distinguishable from bronze. The FIDES MILITVM type was not optimistic propaganda; it was a direct plea to an army that had every practical reason to defect.
Tetricus surrendered to Aurelian at the Battle of Châlons in 274, ending the breakaway empire after roughly a decade. Aurelian, unusually, spared him.
