Additional information

Amatokos I ruled a diminished Odrysian kingdom during the period following its fragmentation after Seuthes I — the unified realm that had dominated Thrace under Sitalkes and Cotys was by this point split among competing dynasts. The Odrysian bronze issues of this era are among the earliest autonomous Thracian coinages struck in base metal, produced at a moment when the kingdom could no longer sustain the silver output of its predecessors.

The Type II designation distinguishes a die variant within a series that remains incompletely catalogued.
