Obverse description Bare or laureate head of Augustus facing right, rendered in the idealized Hellenistic portrait style characteristic of eastern provincial issues of the Augustan period. The emperor's effigy displays carefully modeled facial features with fine hair detailing. The Greek legend ΣΕΒΑΣΤΟΣ (Sebastos, the Greek equivalent of Augustus) appears in the field or around the portrait. The flan is slightly irregular, typical of provincially struck bronzes of this era.
