Below the dolphin, the retrograde ethnic legend OΛBIO is inscribed, identifying the issuing city of Olbia. These reverse types — the dolphin and the grain ear — are emblematic of Olbia's maritime character and agricultural economy, and are hallmarks of the city's bronze coinage throughout the Classical period.
