| Obverse description | The uncrowned effigy of King Charles III facing left, rendered in high relief with finely detailed hair and collar, as designed by Dominic Dwyer for the Perth Mint's first portrait of the monarch. The legend CHARLES III AUSTRALIA arcs along the upper periphery, flanked by raised dot separators, while the denomination 8 DOLLARS appears along the lower arc. The engraver's initials DT are incuse in the lower right field near the truncation. The coin's pink gold-gilded rim contrasts with the deeply mirrored proof field. |

The word KOALA appears in large serif lettering arching across the upper portion of the field.
