Opmerkingen

Appen is a small village in Schleswig-Holstein, and like hundreds of similarly modest German municipalities, it issued its own Notgeld during the postwar emergency currency period when small-denomination Reichsmark coinage had effectively disappeared from circulation. The Konrad Hanf printing house in Hamburg handled a considerable volume of municipal Notgeld contracts during this period, supplying notes to communities throughout the surrounding region that lacked any means of local production.

The 75-Pfennig denomination is one of the more unusual fractional values in German municipal Notgeld — most issuers gravitated toward 25, 50, and the full Mark. Its presence here suggests Appen was plugging a specific change gap rather than issuing for collector appeal.
