Vorderseitenbeschreibung Red and black letterpress Notgeld note with an overall scrollwork underprint in red. At upper left, a circular medallion on a blue ground contains the large gothic numeral '75'; at upper right, a matching medallion bears the city coat of arms of Weida. A central oval vignette on a yellow ground reproduces a panoramic townscape of Weida dated '1655', framed by a bold black border. Two decorative ribbon banners flank the vignette: the left reads 'Gültig bis 12 Monat nach Aufruf', the right carries the issuance place and date 'Weida 30.9.21' together with two facsimile signatures of municipal officials. The town name 'Weida' appears in large gothic script at the foot of the note, and the printer's imprint 'Druck Johannes Arndt Jena' is printed in the bottom margin.

Rückseitenbeschreibung Multicolour vignette occupying nearly the entire face, executed in a bold illustrative style in yellow, blue, green, and red. The central composition presents a view of the Weida Rathaus (town hall) with its distinctive square tower, flanked by adjoining historic buildings and a row of linden trees along the foreground square. The notation 'Rathaus 1921' appears at upper right and an artist's signature is visible at upper left. Below the vignette, a black panel in a tricolour surround carries the denomination '75' at each corner and the legend 'Notgeld der Stadt Weida' in gothic script at centre; the printer's imprint appears in the lower margin.

Anmerkungen

Weida's 1921 Notgeld series belongs to the peak of Germany's municipal small-change crisis, when coin shortages — worsened by wartime metal hoarding and postwar economic dislocation — forced hundreds of Thuringian towns to commission their own fractional paper. The Johannes Arndt Druckerei in Jena was a regional workhorse printer for this flood of municipal issues, turning out runs for multiple Thuringian communities in quick succession during 1921.

Weida, a small textile town on the Auma river, had issued Notgeld earlier during the war years as well. The 1921 series is distinct from those wartime pieces and represents the inflationary transitional phase before the catastrophic hyperinflation of 1922–23 rendered all such denominations worthless within months of issue.
