Issued as part of Turkey's late-period lira flora series, this coin honors Tchihatchewia isatidea, a monotypic genus endemic to central Anatolia and named for the Russian-German geographer Piotr Chikhachev, who extensively surveyed Anatolian geology and botany in the mid-19th century. The plant itself belongs to the Brassicaceae family and grows in a habitat range so restricted that the genus contains exactly one species.
The denomination reflects Turkey's inflation crisis of the late 1990s, which forced face values into the millions before the 2005 redenomination stripped six zeros from the currency entirely.
