This denomination was introduced as part of Reza Shah's sweeping monetary reform of 1927, which abolished the Qajar-era currency system and established the Imperial Bank of Iran's replacement by a state-controlled central bank. The 5000 Dīnār represented the top of the new silver coinage hierarchy — effectively five Kran under the transitional naming — before the rial replaced the dinar entirely in 1932.
Production ran only three years before the denomination was rendered obsolete by that reform. Pieces from the final 1929 date are notably scarcer than the opening year strikes.
