Obverse description Within a raised border, the central field bears a multi-line Latin inscription commemorating Vladislaus Varnensis, recounting his Jagiellonian lineage, designation as King of Poland during his father's lifetime, coronation as King of Hungary in A.D. 1440, and his death at the Battle of Varna against the Turks in A.D. 1444 at the age of 20. The Polish state title RZECZPOSPOLITA POLSKA and the denomination 500 ZŁ appear as a circular legend around the periphery. The date 2015 is inscribed at the bottom of the field, flanked by the Polish crowned eagle emblem and the MW mint mark.
