Reverse description The reverse presents a finely detailed right-facing bust of Louis I of Hungary (Ludovicus Hungarus), depicted in regal attire with an ornate crown surmounted by a cross, flowing hair, and a richly jeweled mantle. The portrait is executed in high relief in a medallic style, conveying the gravitas of a medieval sovereign. The legend LUDOVICUS HUNGARUS. arcs across the upper field in widely spaced capital letters. The engraver's initials I.P.H. appear in the lower exergue beneath the bust. The field is otherwise plain, allowing the sculptural portrait to dominate the composition.
