Reverse description The reverse presents a dynamic, classically inspired high-relief composition by Venanzo Crocetti depicting two bare-chested boxers in full combat. The figure on the left, shown in profile, delivers a powerful straight punch toward his opponent, whose torso twists sharply under the impact. The musculature of both athletes is rendered with sculptural precision reminiscent of Hellenistic bronze work, filling the entire field. The engraver's signature CROCETTI appears incuse along the lower rim. The field is otherwise unlettered, allowing the figural group to dominate the design.

Additional information

San Marino issued this coin as part of its Moscow Olympics series, despite the fact that San Marino — along with the United States and roughly 65 other nations — boycotted the 1980 Games in protest of the Soviet invasion of Afghanistan. The coins were struck and sold regardless, their commercial value to collectors entirely detached from any athletic participation.
