Mehmed V was a largely ceremonial sultan by the time this coin was struck — real power had shifted decisively to the Committee of Union and Progress following the 1908 Young Turk Revolution. The Manastır (Monastir) mint, located in what is now Bitola in North Macedonia, was one of the provincial mints activated during this period as the empire struggled to maintain monetary infrastructure across its shrinking Balkan territories.
Within two years of this issue, the First Balkan War would drive Ottoman forces from the region entirely, and the Manastır mint would cease operations under Ottoman authority permanently.
