Obverse description Central field dominated by the elaborate Ottoman imperial tughra of Sultan Mehmed V, surmounted by radiating sunburst lines emanating from behind the monogram. Flanking the tughra are crossed standards, flags, cannons, and other military emblems symbolizing Ottoman imperial power. A central oval cartouche containing the sultan's cypher is positioned at the heart of the composition. The entire central device is enclosed within an ornate foliate border of densely engraved arabesques and scrolling floral motifs that fill the field to the reeded rim.
