| Obverse description | Central field features a rectangular cartouche containing the heraldic lion of Schleiz, depicted passant and facing left, rendered in relief against a plain ground. Flanking the cartouche, the denomination numerals '50' appear to the left and 'Pf.' to the right. The date '1922' is inscribed above the cartouche. The circular legend 'STADT' arcs across the upper periphery and 'SCHLEIZ' across the lower periphery, separated by a small crossed-tools emblem at the base. The entire design is bordered by a beaded rim characteristic of molded porcelain Notgeld issues. |

| Additional information |
Schleiz issued porcelain notgeld during the acute coin shortage that followed Germany's post-WWI economic collapse, when municipalities across Thuringia sourced emergency currency from whatever local industry remained viable. The Schwarzburg region had no shortage of ceramic expertise, and porcelain pieces like this one were fired at facilities already producing industrial and decorative ware — the monetary application was essentially a sideline.
Brown-glazed porcelain issues from Schleiz are among the less commonly encountered color variants in the Men05 catalog sequence for this municipality.
