Obverse description The Mexican national coat of arms occupies the central field, depicting a Mexican golden eagle perched upon a prickly pear cactus growing from a rocky outcrop, devouring a serpent in its beak and talons. An oak branch appears to the left and a laurel branch to the right of the base, tied together below. The national legend ESTADOS UNIDOS MEXICANOS arcs along the upper periphery in raised Latin letters. The design is rendered in high relief against a frosted field, consistent with proof coinage, and is surrounded by a fine beaded border.
