50 Pesos 'C' Foreign Exchange Certificate-Narrow 'C'

Cuba's Foreign Exchange Certificate series was introduced to capture hard currency from tourists and diplomats while keeping it formally separate from the peso economy. The "C" overprint on this 1985 issue identified it as valid for use in the Tiendas de Recaudación de Divisas — the dollar shops that sold imported goods inaccessible through the regular distribution network. Two variants exist for this denomination distinguished solely by the width of that overprinted "C," making attribution entirely a matter of close measurement rather than any structural difference between the notes.

Printed domestically by Impresos de Seguridad rather than contracted abroad, the series is unusual for a Caribbean issuer of the period.
